Neutrals masterclass for Springs

When we think of the Spring palette, we think first and foremost of COLOUR - from vibrant coral pinks to turquoise blues and canary yellows, Spring really has it all. But it also has a good range of really beautiful neutrals, which often get lost and forgotten (and their absence panicked about!) by newly diagnosed Springs.

As Spring is the lightest of the four palettes, your darkest neutrals are Bright Navy and Chocolate, but as soon as we come a little lighter your options widen; from Coffee through Tan to Camel, from Dove Grey to Pebble Grey and Soft White. As a Spring you can actually create some really elegant, effortless neutral looks, as well as using your neutrals as a backdrop to your bold brights.

Each season has neutrals from the warmest and coolest ends of their palette but don't feel you have to choose from one end or the other - sometimes a combination can be more unexpected and interesting. And remember, these neutrals are your foundations - you want to pick ones which harmonise comfortably with your Wow colours - your favourite bright colours within the palette.

If you're just starting out with your personal colour palette, it can sometimes be helpful to stick to a smaller number of neutrals, to ensure a cohesive look within your wardrobe as you transition it over to your new colours - pick one darker and one lighter as a minimum, and you can add more over time.

In order to show you how versatile neutrals can be, I've styled Spring's neutrals three ways below; all alone, with a bolder colour pop or two, and as the foundation of a much brighter outfit.

Style notes: Athough we always think of Springs looking their best in bold, high contrast looks, this elegantly tonal, warm toned look shows just how grown up the Spring palette can be. Adding in metallics and print brings in texture and interest to this otherwise very simple outfit. Complete your look with a splash of Coral in a necklace or lipstick.

Style notes: Who said the colour pop had to be on the top? This pretty Tessa Skirt adds the vibrancy to this outfit, along with the added splash from the Gauze Stole in Apple, while Coffee and Soft White keep the whole look feeling somewhat softly elegant.

Style notes: I LOVE the colour clash/combination here. Pale Peach operates as a very warm light neutral, holding the whole look together without sacrificing any of the brightness.
