Top tips from our stylists - how to shop for colourful clothing
How to shop colourful clothing
The launch of our Colour Studio has been such an exciting adventure for us here at Kettlewell, we’ve seen countless women transform their wardrobes, uncover their perfect palettes and step out of the studio radiating a new-found confidence!
With our Colour Studio came our incredible stylists, who not only regularly wow us with their knowledge & expertise but also all share a passion for helping whoever walks through the door and creating a uniquely positive, uplifting and above all colourful space! We often refer to the colour studio as the ‘zen zone’; you can’t help but feel a sense of calm when greeted by the warmth of our four lovely ladies.
While we are enormously proud of our studio, we recognise that not everyone can make the trip to Somerset, so we’re going to be sharing some of our stylists’ top tips here on the blog for you.
Whether you’re shopping in-person, online, or simply in your wardrobe, these tips are guaranteed to help you feel even more confident in your colours.
Tip 1: Be open-minded
Whilst we all have our comfort zones with style, it’s important to keep an open mind when it comes to shopping; those pieces that you couldn’t possibly see yourself in might end up being the ones that fill you with joy, boost your confidence, and become firm favourites.
“Try everything on & don’t be afraid to play with styles, we’re here to help you discover what really works for you!” – Heather (Spring)
Tip 2: Wear the velvet scarf as a belt
Vibrant & versatile! Not only do our velvet scarves bring a pop of colour to any outfit, but our stylists have discovered that they make the perfect belt, wrapped around the velvet skirt (of course), for elevated elegance.

Tip 3: Experiment with sizing
At Kettlewell, our sizing is carefully considered, to ensure everyone can access our colourful collection! However, experimenting with sizing is a great way to ensure you get the perfect fit; our stylists recommend sizing down in both the Jodi Square Neck & Albany Coatigan if you prefer a more sleek & fitted look.
“For those of you who love our Jersey Maxi Skirt, but don’t like too much fabric, sizing down is a great way to tailor to your style.” – Sancha (Winter)

Tip 4: Remember your points of interest
Points of interest are an excellent way of elevating even the simplest of outfits. Simply put, points of interest can be interpreted as the finishing touches, the little added extras to draw the eye to, pieces that help you to express your personal style.
Incorporating a belt into your outfit is a great way of creating a point of interest; if you have a short torso, a narrower belt like the Astrid might be more balancing for you. If you have a long torso or love to highlight your waist, a wider belt such as the Lara might feel most comfortable.
“My favourite pairing has to be the Zebra Print Belt with the Italian Plum Naomi dress. But if you’re someone who doesn’t feel comfortable wearing belts, then the Short Cascade or Short Tie Wrap work really well to highlight the waist” – Sancha (Winter).

Tip 5: Layer your knitwear
With chillier temperatures ahead, layering is key! Whilst we often reference our Silky Roll Necks as the ultimate layering piece, our stylist - Jane, is loving the Stripey Pima Tee under the Cashmerino Scoop…
“Not only will you benefit from the cosiness of quality layers, but you also get to incorporate more colour into your outfit. Or if neutrals feel more you, then a neutral shade knit with the Stripey Pima underneath adds a subtle colour pop.” Jane (Summer)

Tip 6: Tash’s style secret
Our Winter stylist Tash loves experimenting with the styles in the studio, always finding new inspiration to share with our customers! She recently paired the Suzie Wool Jacket with our iconic Silky Roll Neck, which looked stunning!
“Pairing textures can really add interest to your outfit. Our soft Silky Roll Necks are the perfect partner to the texture of our brand new Suzie Wool Jacket, and the colour combination possibilities are endless!” Tash (Winter)

Tip 7: Explore your palette
Uncovering your WOW colours is such a transformative experience, and these colours are certainly not to be ignored… however, exploring your palette and experimenting with more of your seasonal colours can be both fun, and informative.
“Our stylist team is always encouraging customers to explore their entire palette and find brand new and unexpected colour combinations. It’s a joy to see someone fall in love with their palette all over again.” Jo (Autumn)
