What to buy after your colour analysis {summers}

So you've had your analysis, you're panicking slightly about the colours you've been given and even though you love the soft tonal shades mixed in with a smattering of brights, you're not quite sure how to interpret it all without going out looking like a mother of the bride. Sound about right?

What you need is (a) some inspiration and (b) a definitive plan. Fortunately I've got both right here for you.

First up, if you buy nothing else, here's the 10 essentials that will help begin the transition of your wardrobe over to your new sophisticated Summer palette:

Kettlewell items shown: Florence Infinity Scarves in Meadow Violet and Fig, Silky Roll Neck in Mauve Mist, Tasha Top in Meadow Violet, Silky Scoop in Ice Blue, Milan Knit Cardigan in Light Silver, Mid Cascade in Clover, Ruched Skirt in Fig, Rosa 7/8 Trousers in Light Navy, Cosy Cotton Stripe Top in Cassis/Grey Marl

Feeling ready to go? Here's the action plan you need to follow to make all those essentials work for you. Depending on your resources (financial and time) it might take you a week or a year, the important thing is just to do it.

  1. If you haven't already, give your wardrobe a preliminary sort. Get a feel for what is in your colours and what isn't, get rid of any major disaster areas that you were looking for an excuse to chuck out anyway.
  2. As quickly as possible, buy a couple of tops or scarves in your wow colours - the ones from your palette that made you look and feel truly amazing (related, but not a wardrobe point - get your make up sorted at this stage too. Just chuck everything in the wrong colours. Do it now, don't overthink it, and purchase some everyday essentials in your colours). In case you hadn't guessed, this is where you make use of that inspiration pic up the page
  3. WEAR THE TOPS AND SCARVES. Don't save them for a special occasion, just get out there, in your colours.
  4. Now the work really begins. Have a second sort through your wardrobe. Make a physical list of areas where you own few or no items in your colours (eg trousers, skirts etc).
  5. Shop in order of priority - wardrobe gaps where you literally have nothing, or the thing you have is so far wrong that it pains you to wear it (for example, a pair of dark navy trousers might make the cut, a black t-shirt might just be too harsh and stark now you know how good you can look).
