Your magic colour - Summers

I expected to find choosing a Summer colour incredibly easy, but actually I found it the hardest of all four seasons. It feels like there is so much variation between an almost-Spring-like Light/Pastel Summer, and the vibrancy and depth of a Deep Summer. Eventually, I settled on a choice which felt a bit uncomfortable at first, because it's not something I think of as a classic Summer colour, but the more I considered it, the more right it felt. Heliotrope is a gorgeous soft purplish shade, with more than a hint of Lavender about it, undercut with a more blue tone.

style notes

Heliotrope becomes even prettier and softer when paired with traditional Summer shades like Cornflower.

style notes

Light Summers need an almost ethereal airy brightness to their outfits, and this combination of Silver Moon and Heliotrope provides exactly that.

style notes

Add depth and vibrancy to Heliotrope with Sultry Navy and a tiny splash of bold Pink Amethyst. Blackberry keeps the look tonal rather than straying into high contrast.

style notes

I am completely in love with our Brown Summer colours at the moment, especially Rose Brown, which pairs beautifully with Heliotrope.

A final word on magic colours

You can see from the images above how much the one magic colour I've chosen works with any of the seasonal sub-types when it's paired with the right colours. The truth is that almost any colour from your palette can be made to work for you when it's styled in the right way, and I'd love for you to experiment with a colour from your palette that you don't normally wear - maybe it will prove to be your own magic colour! Come over to the Kettlewell Colour Club and share your experiments - there's a whole group of us waiting to explore and celebrate colour along with you.

And a final final note: As with Winters, I also feel that there's a rather more neutral magic colour out there for you too - Oxford Blue is that perfect denim blue shade which works with everything, so if you want the safest magic colour ever, why not give it a go?
